I am a sculptor in Tacoma, Washington.
I sculpt primarily in clay and cast in bronze. I explore symbols and
images from ancient culture as well as experiment in varying forms and
texture. Like good literature, each of my pieces of visual art have
metaphoric references underlying the explicit. I'm drawn more to
representational sculpture over abstract, but am also intrigued by the
possibilities offered by the challenge of conveying more meaning with
less information. As a bronze artisan I enjoy the opportunity to
revisit the details of each piece throughout the for distinct stages
of the process: Clay, wax, metal, and patina. The color and finish of
a sculpture is as important to me as the shape and should always
reinforce the concept by complementing the design.
While a few of my pieces are essentially whimsical, most have a deeper meaning -- a specific significance to me. Some of them operate on multiple levels. Sometimes the meaning is intended from the very beginning, but often that meaning emerges over time as I explore an idea. The meaning of some do not become clear until well after they are completed. Perhaps all of them, even the silly ones, will eventually reveal themselves to me over time.
Please contact me with any questions about my work, or to inquire about commissions or special projects.
If you are a sculptor who is interested in getting his or her work cast in bronze, you can contact me about that, as well.
